Steps for Categorizing Cookies

After adding your website domain, Cookie Wow will automatically scan your website. You can also manually trigger a scan any time by clicking the “Scan Cookies” button.
The system will detect all cookies and scripts present on your website. These can be reviewed and managed in the Cookie Scanner section on your dashboard.


Assign Cookie Categories
Each cookie discovered will be listed with a Category column, allowing you to assign a category from a dropdown menu.

Cookie Wow automatically classifies some commonly known cookies. For example, Google Analytics cookies (e.g., _ga) are pre-categorized under Analytics.
You can view the full list of pre-categorized cookies here.

Cookies that are not yet categorized will not appear in the Manage Cookies section nor be automatically blocked until you categorize them.
You can assign custom categories manually in the Manage Cookies section.

Managed Cookies for Consent Control
Only cookies that are categorized will be included in the Manage Cookies section.
These cookies will be automatically blocked on the website until the user provides consent for the corresponding category.

Publish the Updated Banner
Once all cookies are properly categorized, click Publish Banner to update the cookie banner on your website. This process may take around 5–10 minutes.

Why Is Cookie Categorization Important?

Categorizing cookies correctly is essential to comply with privacy regulations such as the PDPA.
Different cookie types require different levels of consent. For example:
Analytics cookies (non-essential) must not be activated until a user consents.
Misclassifying or failing to block cookies could lead to legal issues related to data privacy compliance.
By organizing cookies into the right categories, website owners reduce the risk of non-compliance and ensure a better user experience.
